Under Scafell unveils the hidden waterfall of Netherbeck Falls, underneath England’s highest peak. This piece celebrates both the mountain’s commanding presence and the delicate ecosystem it nurtures, brought to life through low and high relief. Under Scafell is sculpted from a rare fragment of Neolithic bog oak, part of the legendary Hemplands Haul, approximately thirty sub-fossilised oaks discovered in the ancient peat bogs of Norfolk’s Wissington fens.
Light filters through the scene with shell gold illuminating every carefully considered detail: the geometric poetry of weathered rock faces, the gentle motion of wind-touched branches, and the eternal energy of falling water, meeting the still pool below. In the distance, Scafell Pike stands sentinel, an unchanging guardian of this fragile landscape.
